Firstly, well done to everyone involved in this year’s carnival. As with any community event, there’s a huge amount of organising involved and things don’t just magically fall into place. It’s also encouraging to see so many young people stepping up to the mark in terms of attending meetings, preparing events and generally helping out.

In the aftermath of any festival, there’s a review, which is always a useful excercise. The first observation is that ‘traditional’ carnival events such as the table quiz and car treasure hunt were very well supported. The Waxies concert also generated lots of interest.

Interestingly, last Friday night’s ‘seisiún’ in the marquee bar, featuring some outstanding musicians, worked really well. It also returned a healthy profit, even though there was no admission fee. This is a project that could be developed further.
