Students urged to consider science options in CAO
Curraghagalla National School has added a Water Safety Flag to its accolades, as the flag was awarded and presented by Cork County Council last week.
The students completed a course on developing public awareness, promoting necessary attitudes and developing rescue skills and behaviour to prevent water related accidents.
The programme is specifically tailored to primary school children and the students enjoyed the hands on, user friendly approach, as they were really involved in obtaining the flag for their school.
They were presented with the flag by Safety Development Officer with Cork County Council, Caroline Casey. While the programme has been piloted in a number of Cork schools, Curraghagalla National School is the first to officially have the flag.
Through the 'Wise Up Around Water' course, senior and junior pupils were given different tasks so that they might understand water safety better.
The senior pupils looked at the theory of water safety with an IT presentation and through playing a specifically designed board game on the topic.
The junior students worked with a book 'Sally and Jake Wise Up Around Water', which was written by Caroline and throughout the day, there were lots of water themed activities and scenarios played out.
In other school news, there will be a grandparent's Mass in Curraghagalla Church on Wednesday, February 11 and enrolment forms for September are now available in the school.
Anyone who wishes to get an application form or who wants further information is asked to contact Principal Anne O'Sullivan on 025-27449.
In the near future, the school will be making a clothing collection, so people are asked to hold onto clothes, shoes, bags, curtains or bedding that they no longer need.
For those who have items, but are unable to drop them at the school, collection will be arranged and all money raised will go towards developing IT in the school. More details of the collection to follow at a later date.
