Kilworth Trout Anglers are teaming up with their colleagues in Glanworth and Mitchelstown, to host the Trout Anglers Federation of Ireland (T.A.F.I.) inter provincials - which is essentially an All-Ireland competition.

The event, which takes place on Saturday, 21st June on the River Funcheon, will feature the country's top anglers and is a massive occasion for all concerned.

John Cotter, a long standing member of Kilworth Trout Anglers, who is one of the organising committee, said planning for the inter provincials is at an advanced stage. He went on to acknowledge the contribution of Mitchelstown and Glanworth trout anglers in helping to organise the competition.

The only two local anglers to make the qualifying mark for the final are Dave Coughlan (Mitchelstown) and Jim Russell (Kilworth).

Organisers are anxious to point out that a 'catch and release' policy will be in operation for the forthcoming competition, with all trout returned to the river having been recorded and measured by designated stewards. The event is also a significant boost for the local economy with the end of competition meal and prize-giving ceremony taking place in The Corbett Court.

The fact that T.A.F.I. chose the Funcheon is a massive vote of confidence for angling in this region and backs up what local anglers have known for some time - that it is one of the best trout rivers in the country.
