DNA testing of dog droppings, name and shame bad owners while a councillor has warned that signs were not effective ‘as hounds cannot read’. 

The issue of footpath landmines dropped into the Fermoy Municipal District meeting recently as Cllr William O’Leary raised concerns about the issue. 

Cllr O’Leary had asked that the council would have a discussion as to how ‘this Municipal District can best tackle the issue of dog fouling as it is evident the issue is continuing to worsen’.

Diane Finucane of Cork County Council, told the councillor in a written response that measures had been taken to solve the problem.

“Town ambassadors are handing out dog fouling bags to dog walkers in Fermoy, dog fouling bags are provided to Mitchelstown also to help alleviate this problem.”
