The countdown to summer is on and Cork is buzzing with preparations for one of its greatest traditions. The Cork Summer Show will open its gates this Saturday 15 and Sunday, 16 June.

This show is a summer staple for tens of thousands of people from Cork and Munster, bridging rural and urban life. With a history spanning over two centuries, it promises to be the biggest and best show yet.

This year’s event features 20 themed zones, with something for everyone! Visitors can explore livestock displays, farm machinery, and high-tech gardening equipment. The food village showcases local and artisan cuisine with live chef demos and talks from food experts. With over a hundred picnic tables set in the lush Cork Showgrounds, it’s the perfect place to savour great food and soak up the summer atmosphere.

The mainstage, with its legendary rustic straw bale seating, will feature acts including Jerry Fish, James Keegan, Fiona Kennedy, Gina and the Champions, the Céilí Allstars, DJ Jim X Comet and more. There will also be on-stage entertainment for the kids.

The show offers fantastic family entertainment as well as an array of educationally themed areas. Check out Lego building projects, the Cool Food School, the funfair and rides specially designed for younger kids. Families can enjoy picnic spaces, arts and crafts, face painting, and opportunities to learn about farm animals and agricultural life.

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE

Gardening enthusiasts can explore the expanded Horticulture and Garden Zone, with lectures and talks from experts from the National Vegetable Society, AOIFA (The Association of Irish Floral Artists), and the Dahlia Society.

Tips and advice will be available from stallholders throughout the show and from the Field of Dreams team.

The Munster Agricultural Society was founded in 1805 to bring scientific methods to agriculture. In keeping with that tradition, UCC will showcase their Grassland Biodiversity project, offering visitors a chance to meet researchers and experts in grassland and agriculture from the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences.

There’s so much to see including tethered hot air balloons by Ballooning Ireland, a tug-of-war championship with TOWI, and exhibits from lifeguards and traffic safety experts from Cork County Council.

Budding entrepreneurs can explore the Local Enterprise Zone, supported by the Local Enterprise Offices in Cork city and county. This marquee will showcase 50 vibrant local businesses, highlighting arts, crafts, food, clothing and more. Visitors can meet entrepreneurs, learn about their journeys and sample outstanding artisan food.
