The contractor who obtained planning permission from Cork County Council for the re-development of the convent site in Mitchelstown says he’d start the project immediately if it wasn’t for the issue with the waste water treatment plant in the town.

Jerry O’Sullivan from Rockspring Properties had hoped to start the development last March, providing in excess of 20 jobs locally while also providing much needed new homes for the town.

However, Mr O’Sullivan told The Avondhu this week that he didn’t want to just ‘half-do’ the job and walk away leaving the land looking like a ‘derelict building site’.
