Following on from a number of setbacks, empty promises and political ploys, The Avondhu can now reveal that the contract for the Burncourt/Fethard scheme was signed by the contractor, Glan Agua Ltd this week.

Cllr Marie Murphy (FG) told The Avondhu that Tipperary County Council were informed that the contract had been signed on Tuesday of this week and councillors were notified this morning that the contract had been 'fully executed'.

As the contract is a design, build operation, Glan Agua Ltd will now prepare to draft the designs and get the documents in order.

Cllr Murphy said that she has ensured that the scheme has been kept as a priority to ensure that the work would be carried out at Glengarra.

"This will happen now. It was first raised in the Dáil in 1965 as far as I know and now there is an end in sight for the people in the 43 houses in Skeheenarinky who have been on a boil water notice.

"There is an end in sight," she told The Avondhu.

She explained that for a contract of this size, Bord Gais had to get their board to approve the contract and Bord Gais had signed off on it before the elections, but the actual contract had not been signed by the company Glan Agua Ltd until this week.
