Minister Seán Sherlock has this week urged community groups throughout the towns and villages of North Cork to begin working on their applications for the Community Fund Scheme and the Amenity Grants which have now opened for applications. The objective of both schemes is to provide community enhancement but in different ways.
The aim of the Community Fund Scheme Scheme is to provide flexible financial support to community groups and local organisations in North Cork who wish to undertake infrastructural projects costing over €25,000 which will improve the range and/or quality of community based facilities within their area e.g. community halls, sporting facilities, etc.
Through the Amenity Grants Scheme 2013, the works that qualify for consideration include the provision or improvement of amenities and the provision of community facilities. Applications can be made for amounts up to €20,000. The facilities provided must be available for the use and enjoyment of the general public or of a particular age group in the community at all reasonable times. Amenities must be either free of charge or subject to moderate charges to cover management and maintenance costs.
Encouraging groups to begin work on their applications, Minister Sherlock said each year these schemes provide invaluable funding to community groups and have a huge impact on the provision of services and facilities within local communities.
“I have no doubt but that the schemes have been greatly anticipated in many areas. This funding is reflective of the commitment from Cork County Council to local area development and enhancement. Should any group wish to seek advice or guidance in compiling their applications, I would be happy to assist and they can contact my office.”
The closing date for the Community Fund Scheme is Friday July 19th, while the closing date for the Amenity Grants is Friday August 30th. Guidelines and application forms for both schemes can be downloaded from the Cork County Council website. Minister Sherlock’s office can be contacted at 022-53523.
