Community Alert groups a priority for communities

A new initiative, promoting the importance of setting up and supporting extisting Community Alert groups, was announced at a talk held in Kildorrery.

At the latest monthly meeting of the Ballyhoura Galtee District Forum, the importance of setting up and supporting existing Community Alert groups was on the cards, as representatives from six different areas turned out in Kildorrery to hear a talk on the subject by John Cronin of Muintir na Tire.

The meeting took place in the Kildorrery Oaklawn Complex on April 9 with representatives from Kildorrery, Shanballymore, Ballindangan, Skeheenarinky, Anglesboro and Kilbehenny all in attendence.

Richard Butler, CEO of Grapevine Communications, who provide the community text (SMS) alert programme, in partnership with An Garda Siochana and Muintir na Tire, spoke about their new initiative being rolled out.

Chairman of the Galtee District Forum Group, Moss Fitzgerald, thanked John and Richard for their informative talks and all those who had turned up, Sadie Allen development officer with Ballyhoura for organising the event and the Oaklawn committee for the use of their wonderfull complex and for suppyling refreshments.
