Every pupil attending Clondulane National School contributed to the aptly titled 'We Are Writers!'. Produced in association with Scholastic Book Fair, the book was formally launched in the school on Thursday, May 8, by acclaimed author, Maria Burke.

Maria paid tribute to the children's creativity adding that the fledgling writers had drawn inspiration from a range of interesting sources. Having reviewed the publication she said that every contributor had written from the heart.

Parents were invited to attend and a fine crowd gathered in the school hall to hear students read extracts from the attractively produced book (cover design is by Síofra Gayer). Prior to the launch guests were treated to a musical performance by pupils: Niamh Clancy, Kate Moroney, Deirdre Fanning, Jason Landon, Liam Clancy and Maeve Flynn with accompaniment from Jimmy Morrison.

Speaking at the launch, principal, Liz O'Brien said the Scholastic Book Fair had proved a great organisational and financial success. She went on to congratulate everyone involved in producing 'We Are Writers!' especially the school's pupils whose writings was now available for all to enjoy.

In an increasing digital age, it's encouraging to see that having your work committed to print still holds a special fascination. The hope is that inspired by this first step into publishing, some of those who contributed to 'We Are Writers!' will go on to even greater literary success.
