As opposition to EirGrid's Grid Link project widens across the region, Cllr Frank O'Flynn has rowed in behind those against the positioning of giant pylons in north Cork.

He has tabled a motion for the next meeting of Cork County Council calling on them to request that EirGrid put the lines linking Munster and Leinster underground. The motion includes a request that EirGrid meet with landowners and communities to listen to their concerns and allay the public's fears on health and safety.

Public information evenings continued around the area this week, with one held in Tallow on Tuesday night for the communities in that region. Last week the 'Bride and Blackwater Against Pylons' campaign group opened an office in Lismore manned by volunteers giving information about the project and its ramifications for the area.

A strong anti lobby groups has also emerged in south Tipperary.

People have until Tuesday next, November 26 to get their submissions in to EirGrid. That feedback will be used by the company to identify the corridor least constrained, that is, the route with the least environmental, social, technical and other obstacles to be overcome.
