There will be a mix of classical music and comedy in Kilworth over the next few days with the first of this year’s North Cork Classical Music events on this Thursday followed by a visit from satirist/comedian, Oliver Callan on Saturday.

Soprano, Laura O’Sullivan wil get this year’s North Cork Classical Music series under way at 8.15pm on Thursday and the organisers, Jane Annesley and Liam Howard, are once again appealing for your support.

Laura will include pieces from composers such as Donizetti, Caldara, Rachmaninov, Bizet, Puccini and others but will also include songs such as ‘Summertime’ (Gershwin), ‘Marble Halls’ (Balfe), ‘She Moved Thru The Fair’ and the more modern ‘Black Is The Colour’, ‘The Water Is Wide’ etc which should appeal to everyone. She will be accompanied by pianist, Elena Alekseeva.

OLIVER CALLAN

On Saturday night, get the gang together and enjoy an evening with one of the country’s top mimics, Oliver Callan, star of ‘Nob Nation’ and ‘Green Tea. Callan is well known in Ireland and the UK for skewering celebrities and politicians on radio and television and his acerbic wit and talent for mimicry has made him a household name. Bring a friend (or two or three) and make it a real fun night out!

Tickets for bothe events are €15 and are now on sale from The Avondhu offfice, Fermoy (025-32227); Cotter’s Bar, Kilworth (025-27109); Hyland’s Bookshop, Mitchelstown (025-24528) or call 087-6492514.
