The Bluegrass programme at The Village Arts Centre continues on Monday, March 5 when, from Nashville, Tennessee, USA comes Chris Jones and The Night Drivers.
This award winning Bluegrass band make their first appearance at the Kilworth venue and are eagerly awaited.
World renowned actor/comedian Steve Martin, an Academy Award Winner and a Grammy Award Winner for his Bluegrass banjo playing and recordings, says: “Chris Jones’ voice is there with the great masters and The Night Drivers are some of the best players in Bluegrass.”
They also come highly recommend by none other than Greg Cahill of Special Consensus of which Chris Jones was previously a member.
Lead vocalist, he is an International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) award winner as a radio presenter and songwriter. He has performed with Earl Scruggs, Tom T Hall, Vasser Clements and the traditional Irish band The Chieftains, on their Bluegrass/Trad collaboration.
Jon Weisberger on bass and vocals, is a much sought after bass player in Nashville and further afield, when not touring with The Night Drivers. He is also an IBMA award winning songwriter. Known for his encyclopedic nownkowledge of Bluegrass, he has written many liner notes and articles on Bluegrass.
Gina Clowes on banjo and vocals, is an excellent banjo player and a great harmony singer.
On mandolin and vocals, Mark Stoffel excels as a mandolin player, more particularly as’ his style of playing fits perfectly with the bands sound.
