Kilmallock’s Friars’ Gate Theatre holds its Literary Festival over this weekend. There is a very interesting duo of children’s events commencing on Saturday at 3pm when children of 6 years and older will be enthralled by the reading of Gordon Snell, writer of more than thirty children’s books of verse and prose.
Gordon has also written song lyrics and librettos for musicals and operas, and worked as a writer and interviewer for radio and television programmes, mainly for the BBC.
Admission is free but tickets must be booked in advance.
EXPLORATIONS IN WORD AND SOUND
On Sunday 27th (2pm–4pm), Grey Heron Media presents ‘Explorations in Word & Sound’. This is suitable for children aged 8–13 years and is a fun and interactive event incorporating a number of activities designed to engage young ears with sound in new and exciting ways. Using digital audio recording equipment and different kinds of microphones, the children’s imagination will be engaged to reproduce familiar sounds with everyday objects. The workshop will include the creation of a number of mini-compositions that the children will create using their new found skills – sketches, radio drama scenes and sound poems.
Admission is €10, booking on 063-98727.
