Chernobyl children enjoy Christmas with area families

It was a tearful farewell to some visitors from Minsk last weekend for host families in Fermoy (part of the Adi Roche’s Chernobyl Children International), who once again gave the gift of Christmas to orphans – helped in no small way by local family and friends.

Area families involved with Adi Roche's Chernobyl Children International, who treated three children and a young adult to a Cork Christmas experience, bade farewell to their charges on Sunday last.

Tanya, Marina and Kanstansyia and 25-year-old Vera (whose first time it was to visit Fermoy), arrived on December 19th and stayed with families in Conna, Glanworth and Fermoy. While young Marina and Kanstansyia had been to Fermoy for Christmas before, it was Tanya's first Christmas though she's been here before in summer time.

Both Marina and Vera live in orphanages in Minsk. Translator Elena Khrustaliova travelled with the group on her 13th visit to Fermoy.

The families hosting the children funded the Christmas trip themselves. They would like to sincerely thank everyone who gave gifts to the children, their families, friends and local businesses who were extremely generous. The group enjoyed a number of fun trips and outings during their stay.
