It's been almost three years since Blackwater Outdoor Activities opened their doors in Castletownroche offering an array of fun outdoor adventure activities. Based in Blackwater Castle, the company have a range of activities that now includes archery, a zip line, an obstacle course, laser clay pigeon shooting, zorbing and karting.

One of the enterprise success stories of North Cork in recent years, Blackwater Outdoor Activities have expanded their market to include stag and hen weekends, corporate team building, school tours and summer camps as well as accommodating wedding parties that have chosen Blackwater Castle for their venue.

Avondhu Blackwater Partnership grant funded part of the expansion of the company by providing support for the purchase of equipment, which Blackwater Outdoor used to expand their range of activities, allowing them to carve a distinctive niche for themselves.

“There is a strong symbiotic relationship between Blackwater Outdoor Activities and Blackwater Castle with the Castle lands containing forestry and rivers that are perfect for outdoor activities. This kind of partnership may be a model others can follow, where the strengths of different businesses can be brought together to mutual benefit” Avondhu Blackwater Partnership CEO Valerie Murphy said.             

“For our part, we at Avondhu Blackwater Partnership are very happy to see what Brian and Conor have done with a wonderful idea which has been built into a sustainable business,” Valerie continued. “Our role in administering the LEADER Programme is to channel funding and support to projects such as this, local people with innovative ideas. It's very rewarding for all the staff here when they see their work on these projects come to fruition."
