Castlemartyr native ordained for Diocese of Cloyne, first Mass in Mogeely

Rev Patrick O’Donoghue, a native of Castlemartyr in East Cork, was ordained to the priesthood for service in the Diocese of Cloyne on Sunday.

Rev Patrick O’Donoghue, a native of Castlemartyr in East Cork, was ordained to the priesthood for service in the Diocese of Cloyne on Sunday in St Colman’s Cathedral, Cobh, Bishop William Crean, the Bishop of Cloyne being the main celebrant.

Patrick's parents are David and Maura O’Donoghue, and he has three brothers and one sister. Born in April 1978, he attended Youghal Presentation Convent NS, Youghal CBS NS and Castlemartyr NS and received his second level education at Midleton CBS Secondary School. He completed his Leaving Cert in 1995, and graduated with a degree in Pharmacy, from Trinity College Dublin in 2003. He has worked in the Pharmaceutical Industry and in Community Pharmacy in Dublin and Cork.

He undertook his studies for the priesthood, in two periods, from 1998-2002 and 2009-2013. He undertook his undergraduate studies in Theology at St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth graduating with a Baccalaureate in Divinity in 2010, before studying at the Pontifical Irish College, Rome, graduating with a Licentiate in Dogmatic Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in 2013.

During his time in the seminary Patrick undertook various pastoral placements, including a pastoral year in the parish of Mitchelstown. He was ordained to the Diaconate in April of this year in the Basilica of Saints John and Paul in Rome by Archbishop Dermot Clifford. Patrick celebrated his first Mass on Monday night in Mogeely.
