Castlelyons 4-12 Ballinacurra 6-15

Our junior B hurlers took on Ballinacurra in the East Cork junior b championship in the magnificent Killeagh Grounds last Friday evening. In the last few years we had many good games with Ballinacurra in this grade and this one lived up to expectations as it was a high scoring game.

Timmy McCarthy, who played well all through, exchanged points with Ballinacurra from a free. Our next score came 10 minutes into the game as Mark Murphy had a rousing clearance up the field and Ml Hegarty got possession and there was a 21 yard free which Timmy buried for a great goal and we were going well.

Dunny had 0-1 from midfield, Declan Sexton 0-1 and Ml Hegarty added 0-1 as Timmy Mac’s total for the first half was 1-4. However, we did let in Ballinacurra for 2-7 in the first half and we trailed by a goal but were well in the game.

Barry Fitzgerald came out to the corner forward position and Brian O Donovan went into goals for the second half with a view to strengthening both sectors. Barry done well as he scored 1-1 and Timmy added another 1-3 while Alan O Regan and Chris Cotter had 0-1 each.

However, Ballinacurra applied fierce pressure on our backs and midfield during this half and managed to put 4-8 past us as they have a few very good forwards including Imokilly panellist Jake Hegarty.
