A fantastic afternoons entertainment was had on Sunday, April 19 in The Firgrove Hotel as the Mitchelstown branch of the Carmelite Lourdes Group held a tea dance with the objective of bringing sick and special needs children to Lourdes.

Maurice Walsh PRO, explains that the event went absolutely brilliantly and was a complete success with people attending from various counties.

“The hall was full. Ballylanders was very well represented and a Carmelite group from Kinsale also came to support us. They are holding an event on the May bank holiday weekend and we’ll be sure to go and support them also. These are just 2 but there were many others.”

The event was opened by Dave Mulcahy & Tony Corbett who immediately had the dance floor full. Next was Jimmy O’Donoghue who recently launched his new cd, followed by the Fogarty Family, with Micheal fresh from the World Irish Dancing Championships in Montreal doing a demonstration for the crowd. The music continued with Jo Cooke & Southern Beat until Bansha singer Louise Morrissey took to the stage.

“They were are great. Believe it or not Louise came down from Coleraine the morning of the event. The Following Monday she headed back up to Newry. Also fantastic were Julie Devaney and Darragh Coffey from Mitchelstown who it’s hoped will be heading on the trip to Lourdes in September. They will be among the 7 children from the Kildorrery, Kilbehenny and Mitchelstown areas going.”

The Mitchelstown branch of the Carmelite Lourdes Group expressed their sincere thanks to The Firgrove Hotel for giving them the use of the hall for free, to all members of the group who helped out and to all attendees including public representatives.
