Around the Confirmations
Petrol and Diesel heads were in their element last weekend as Corrin Event Centre hosted the Cork Motorfest Truck & Car Show. Weather-wise things weren't too bad, however, it did turn damp on Sunday evening.
Judging by the car parks and the footfall passing through the main hall (which accommodated the various trade stalls) attendances were very respectable as patrons were exposed to everything motor related from drifting to truck pulling. A young and sporty crowd turned out on Saturday for the afternoon/evening programme of drifting and spinning displays - as per usual plenty of rubber was burnt, smoke permeated the atmosphere and the all important spectators were in good form.
Sunday was more a family day with trucks taking centre stage. Some of the country's top strongmen were also in town to showcase their bulging muscles while at the same time performing Herculean feats. Along with the grunting and groaning of the big men there was the cooing of infants as they (and more especially their parents) vied for honours in the baby competition.
Several businesses and companies availed of the opportunity to promote their products while members of Fermoy Rowing Club were out and about selling tickets for a forthcoming draw. The upstairs restaurant was very busy throughout and after the high octane activity out of doors it was nice to sit down and enjoy some refreshments. Stewarding was efficient and the entire event was family friendly.
Following hot on the heels of the Ford & Fordson weekend, it was another hectic few days for the management and staff of Corrin Event Centre, who in recent times have proved beyond doubt that they are capable of hosting just about any sort of indoor or outdoor gig.
