Capita plc has acquired Ireland’s leading domestic provider of outsourced managed services, SouthWestern Business Process Services Limited, from private equity group Ion Equity for €35m.

This deal is set to significantly enhance Capita’s presence in the Irish business process outsourcing market, which is estimated to be worth €1bn and growing by 5 per cent annually.

SouthWestern delivers customer relationship management, financial shared services, data processing and expectorate services to private and public sector organisations, and counts Bord Gáis, Bord Bia, eircom and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine amongst its clients.

Andy Parker, Capita chief executive, said that this move will open doors for Capita’s clients to new services, particularly in the agricultural sector, which is a ‘growing and new market’ for Capita.

“SouthWestern is a highly respected outsourcing company with an excellent private and public sector client base,” he said. “The acquisition will provide Capita the opportunity to provide new services to SouthWestern’s existing clients and to continue to grow both its customer base and job opportunities.”

STRONG POSITION

Neil O’Leary, Ion Equity chairman and outgoing SouthWestern chairman, said that they are proud to have led the company to grow from an entrepreneurial business with 180 workers, to an employer of 1,000 people.

“While we are very happy with our involvement in SouthWestern, Capita is in a position to support greater success and accelerate job creation and we wish all stakeholders a very successful future,” Mr O’Leary said.

SouthWestern employs its 1,000 employees primarily in its three sites in County Cork and one in Poland, together with smaller operations in Dublin and Milton Keynes, England.

SouthWestern CEO, Jim Costello described this as a ‘massive vote of confidence’ in the business, which will help them to achieve their full growth potential.

“SouthWestern has built up very strong relationships in Cork based on the core values of trust and reliability,” Mr Costello added. “These are values shared by Capita and we look forward to building on and developing current relationships and to developing new ones in these exciting times ahead.”
