There was some consternation from motorists in the Corrin area of Fermoy on Wednesday of last week when they came upon a camel from Courtney Bros Circus wandering on the road. The circus ran at the Ballyoran/Corrin site up until Sunday.

The  Animal Rights Action Network group (ARAN), immediately called for the confiscation of all animals at the Courtney Brothers Circus 'as a matter of urgency'.

When contacted, Mr James Conway from Courtneys said the camel had been on the road for 'a matter of seconds'. "We were bringing the animals up to the roadside for watering as a neighbour had kindly given us access to her supply. What those complaining about the matter choose not to mention, is that the camel was pictured on the road just outside the entrance to the circus."

A local group held a protest at the entrance to the circus on Friday night, objecting to the use of wild animals for entertainment purposes.
