Following a number of break-ins locally within the past week, gardaí in Fermoy Garda Station are asking people to utilise the text alert system in place across the district, as both a means for preventing crimes and solving them.

In a breakdown of burglaries locally, a spokesperson for Fermoy Garda Station told The Avondhu that there were four separate break-ins in Watergrasshill on Thursday, March 5, and a further two on Monday, March 9.

Burglaries were reported on the Dublin Road, Fermoy on Saturday, March 7, in Upper Glenduff, Mitchelstown, on Tuesday, March 10, and an attempted break-in Ballyarthur, Mitchelstown, also on Tuesday.

“We would ask people, in relation to alarms, to make sure that they are on. We have text alert systems in the district so that if people are seeing suspicious vehicles in the area to contact the Garda Station and we can then get that information out as a text alert,” a spokesperson for Fermoy Garda Station said.

“Regarding suspicious vehicles, we have been lucky that when we send out information people have sent back in information relating to suspicious cars in the area, so it is very productive from our point of view.

“For it to be productive we need to have information coming in in the first place and that will help us in relation to preventing burglaries and also solving the burglaries that we have. If people are seeing suspicious vehicles in the area, they should contact us and we’ll act on it straight away,” they added.
