A request has been made to the Office of Public Works to extend the free parking in Fermoy until Christmas, saying that it has 'increased business in the town'.

The issue came up at the recent Fermoy area meeting, where Cllr Noel McCarthy asked that the OPW might consider an extension until Christmas.

"It would be a wonderful boost and great gesture to the people of Fermoy," he said.

Cllr Frank O'Flynn added to this by saying that perhaps pay parking should be done away with altogether, to put Fermoy on the same footing as Mitchelstown.
