The Avondhu Blackwater Partnership are looking for farming families to take part in a pilot social farming project in County Cork.
The social farming project will see participating families open their farms up, as a community-based support, to a range of people in their community who have many different needs.
According to the Avondhu Blackwater Partnership, similar social farming projects have been of great benefit to people including those who may be experiencing mental health difficulties, people with intellectual, physical and sensory disabilities, older people, refugees, people with dementia, and others who are availing of drug or alcohol rehabilitation services.
The project would also create the opportunity to reconnect farmers with their local communities, as well as providing a strong sense of personal satisfaction from seeing the difference that the project can make in participant’s lives.
Additionally, projects such as this can help to reduce isolation, a difficulty faced by many farmers.
Participants are invited from all types of farms including suckler and dairy herds, equestrian, tillage, goats, sheep and many other mixed farm enterprises.
An information evening will be held at 7pm on February 25 at Avondhu Blackwater Partnership, The Mill, Castletownroche.
Interested farmers and their families are invited to contact Mary Gubbins of Avondhu Blackwater Partnership on (022) 46580 or e-mail maryg@avondhublackwater.com for further details.
