Brave Eoin’s skydive looms closer

This summer, Eoin Fenton from Kildorrery will jump from a plane in his first ever skydive, to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy Ireland (MDI).

The 14-year-old, who is a student in CBS Mitchelstown, has muscular dystrophy, which is a degenerative muscle wasting disease and he is doing the skydive to give back to MDI who have provided him and the other members with fantastic support.

To boost his fundraising efforts, Eoin has organised a table quiz in Walsh's Bar in Kildorrery on Friday, May 23 for tables of four (adults €10 and juveniles €5).

Other fundraising events so far have included a jersey day in CBS Mitchelstown, a coffee morning hosted by Ballyhoura Macra and other events.

Cork hurling star, Anthony Nash, has also rowed in behind the fundraising and he organised for Eoin, a huge GAA fan, to meet the panel and get a signed jersey, which will be raffled on the night of the quiz, along with a Sean Kelly cycling top and other great prizes.

Since The Avondhu first spoke to Eoin about the skydive that he will do on June 21, he has had great support from friends, family, neighbours and people from all walks of life.

"I am still walking at the moment, but I don't know how long more I will have this luxury. Muscular Dystrophy Ireland provide great support and services for families and individuals with all neuromuscular conditions, and that is the reason I wish to raise as much money as I possibly can for them," Eoin said, speaking about his motivation for the fundraiser.

On June 21, Eoin will be taking on the skydive, completing a 0-200km/hr fall in just 12 seconds from the daunting height of 13,000 feet.

On the night of the quiz on May 23, hot snacks will be provided, kindly sponsored by McDonals in Kildorrery and if anyone would like to sponsor a spot prize for the quiz, purchase raffle tickets or make a donation to Eoin's fundraising drive, they can contact Breda on 086-1737716.

To date, Eoin has received fantastic support, for which he is extremely grateful and he hopes that the Kildorrery table quiz will be well supported, as it will only be a success with the help of the public.
