Late last month, An Bord Pleanála refused planning permission for the construction of a petrol station at a site near Junction 17 off the M8 motorway, close to Watergrasshill.

The decision followed Cork County Council’s rejection of the same application in October 2019, which was made under the name of Peigi O’Mahony.

According to the inspector’s report from the planning authority, the proposed development would have consisted of a petrol station, alongside a food sales building with a deli and hot food counter, as well as a shop and off-licence.

There were also plans to develop a community hub and an office building on-site.
