Late last week, green gunge was seen on the Clonmel Road in Mitchlestown as a foul smell tainted the air.

A spokesperson for Cork County Council told The Avondhu that there was a blockage, but that work carried out on the Clonmel Road to rectify an historical sewage problem last Autumn was completely separate.

"There was a lot of silt and fats, oils and greases in the line. This blockage has been cleared now. Unfortunately blockages will occur in sewers from time to time.

"If anyone has any issues to report on water and wastewater matters they should call our dedicated contact centre on 021-4285353 which is a 24 hour number," the spokesperson said.
