Following a nationwide appeal last week for assistance from qualified search divers to attend the ongoing search in Baltimore, members of the search and recovery unit travelled to Baltimore on Wednesday evening in order to get an early start at the task ahead at first light on Thursday.
All CFT members were co-ordinated by Noel Hayes, the Southern Search and Recovery co-ordinator, working hand in hand with West Cork Underwater Search and Recovery Unit. The members who were available to travel on such short notice were Dave Carey, Maurice Carroll, Olan O’Farrell, Eugene Whelan, Graham Burke, Elden Keegan, Mark Lane, Finbarr Mulcahy, Mike Reidy, Noel Hayes, Kenneth Barry and Gearoid O’Looney.
The unit completed three dives on the Thursday and two dives on Friday morning before the expected change in conditions would prevent diving. The community of Baltimore shone in their hospitality and appreciation to all divers from all over the county in the manner of how everybody was looked after.
As divers say on outings 'everyone comes home' this came true to the word on a recovery bringing the operation to a conclusion. Again many thanks to all who attended.
RAFT RUN FUNDRAISER LAUNCHED
The launch took place of our raft run fundraiser which takes place on August 30. The interest for this event is growing and we are looking forward to a great event. Entries so far are going quite well and hopefully we will be in our expected target area of numbers soon.
If you have any queries about entering and getting involved please ring Ken 086-1018424 or contact any committee member.
