There were great scenes of celebration in Fermoy Bridge Club on Sunday evening following the local team’s success in the Munster Cup competition.

A talented foursome of Mary Hayes, Imelda Cullinan, Mary N O’Connor and Phil Murphy played brilliantly and in so doing won the magnificent D J Corboy Perpetual Cup – a trophy that has been competed for since the 1940s.

It was also remarked that Fermoy Bridge Club did a first class job hosting the 18 table event. Founded in 1934 and possessing their own premises on Mill Road, these are good times for Fermoy Bridge Club.

Membership continues to increase and while there is a very competitive edge to high profile competitions like the Munster Cup, the club is also an important social outlet for members.

Last Sunday’s tournament attracted Munster’s finest players, however, there was no denying the experience and expertise of the local quartet who proved unbeatable on the day.
