Last Sunday's fun run in Ballysaggart exceeded all expectations by raising over €4,000 for young Cian Carey-Conway.

Supporters from all over west Waterford and the neighbouring counties of Cork and Tipperary turned out in fantastic numbers to do what they could for this brave boy who has already undergone very serious heart surgery.

The run was open to all kinds of vehicles and bicycles, motorcycles, tractors and vintage cars along with the farmers' friend, the quad, all turned up to participate. Over 100 of the versatile quads assembled for a cross country course with a few interesting obstacles thrown in for good measure.

The event went on for much of the day and thankfully the weather held up. Proceedings started and finished outside Meagher's Bar in Ballysaggart - a nerve centre of activity for much of the morning, afternoon and evening. Fronting the popular pub was a refreshments tent piled high with every class of sandwich and cake - the bulk of which were consumed by nightfall.

What started out as a very simple idea turned into a brilliantly successful fundraiser which wouldn't have been possible without the public's support. This support was acknowledged by Cian's parents, Liam and Nuala who sincerely thanked all those who gave up their Sunday to help out or participate.

Everyone wishes little Cian well for the future and hopefully through a combination of prayer and medical science everything will work out well in the end.
