Two years ago, Noel O'Callaghan from Ballyporeen suffered a major stroke and to raise money for customised transport to make life that bit easier for Noel, his family and friends have come together to provide support through an event at Curraheen Greyhound Park in Cork.

Noel, who is in his forties and has a young family, has spent more than a year in full time medical care in CUH and in rehab in Dub Laoghaire. He is wheelchair bound, has no capacity on his left side and his vision is restricted.

Noel would have been very involved with the GAA scene locally and was formerly secretary of Ballyporeen Juvenile GAA Club. His family are also very involved, with people from GAA circles being very supportive of the event, while individuals, clubs and businesses have also been very generous and helpful.

The proceeds from this week's Ballyporeen Lotto will also be generously donated to The Noel O'Callaghan Fund. The event will take place on May 9 in Curraheen and the committee are hoping that people will come along and enjoy the night, while also supporting the fund.

Tickets are €10, which includes entry into Curraheen Park and also entry into a draw, with some fantastic prizes including overnight accomodation in Dublin and tickets to the All-Ireland hurling final and a two night stay in Valentia Island with an evening meal.

The committee would like to thank everyone who has supported the event in any way so far and they hope that people will buy their tickets for May 9. Anyone who cannot attend but wishes to support the fund can make a donation to the dedicated account in AIB Mitchelstown - donations can also be made to committee members.

For more information or to purchase tickets, contact committee secretary Eugene Fitzgerald (086 1724882) or chairperson Eamonn O'Callaghan (089 4462542), all support would be greatly appreciated.
