Citing the fact that shops, pubs and the creamery have closed in Ballyduff in recent years, a caller to The Avondhu wished to state that Element Power and the Barranafaddagh wind farm should be welcomed to the Ballyduff area 'with open arms'.

"The area is badly in need of new investment. Indeed the annual payment of between €25,000 and €30,000 which I believe is to be for at least 50 years, should be a fantastic help to the village," the elderly resident who did not wish to be named said.

"It's also good to know that local roads are to be widened and upgraded for the project at it's very hard to get road improvements carried out in recent times with all the cutbacks etc.

"Also important is the annual income to the farmers involved as farming on land in difficult terrain that's approaching one thousand feet over sea level is very demanding at the best of times."
