Best known as a popular point-to-point venue, Ballindenisk (near Watergrasshill) is all set to host the Johnson & Perrott Land Rover sponsored international horse trials from 19th to 22nd September.

This prestigious event which comprises dressage, cross country and showjumping, will attract over 150 riders, with some travelling from as far away as Australia. A precursor to the event sees the 5-star Castlemartyr Resort host a dressage competition on Tuesday 17th - after that, all eyes will be on Ballindenisk where the competition will be fierce as competitors go in pursuit of the very substantial prize money on offer (in the Johnson and Perrott Land Rover CC13 class there's a 'Go For Gold' bonus of €50,000 on offer).

The Freeman-Jackson Trophy will be presented to the leading Irish rider in the CC13. This trophy, sculpted by American Jean Walwyn, was first presented by the Irish Olympic Society in 1966 and competed for at Punchestown Horse Trials, until that venue ceased hosting trials. The famous trophy will now be awarded to the best Irish rider in the CC13 competition at Ballindenisk - leading national hunt trainer, Jessica Harrington is a previous winner of the trophy that depicts four times Irish Olympian, Harry Freeman-Jackson in action.

At last week's launch, event director, Peter Fell said he was delighted with the level of sponsorship the event had received. He went on to thank representatives from Johnson & Perrott Land Rover, Mervue Equine Ireland, Castlemartyr Resort, Heineken, Bucas, Hyde Equine and Amber Service Station in Fermoy for their generosity.

Mr. Fell went on to point out that all the events were open to the public and that Sunday 22nd would be family orientated and feature a number of attractions for children. Further details are available from Ballindenisk House, Watergrasshill on 021-4889106.
