Veterans of the Irish music scene, Bagatelle brought the curtain down on Glenroe Harvest Festival 2013 last Saturday night.
One of the highlights of this year's festival, the band were in excellent form and the feedback was very positive from a good sized crowd who also availed of the opportunity to tuck in to some tasty fare at the on-site barbecue.
Organisationally, those behind the festival couldn't have done any more with very efficient traffic management, excellent stewarding, good lighting, tight security and the provision of a first aid station.
Saturday night wasn't just about Bagatelle as The Reverse and Phoenix also provided first class entertainment - the man who kept things going until late was local DJ, James Murphy. Prior to last Saturday night's show, you had dancing to Lisa McHugh on Thursday evening, a special ladies night 24 hours earlier and bingo in the marquee on Friday.
For those charged with overseeing the festival it was an extremely busy week and the respite that comes with 'closing night' was most welcome. The festival committee rely heavily on voluntary effort for this substantial event to work and once again local volunteers turned out in force to assist with a variety of duties.
Finance is an issue for all groups and organisations and those who support Glenroe Harvest Festival can rest assured that money raised is redirected back into enhancing community facilities. In a relatively short time, Glenroe has developed a magnificent sporting and recreational complex that adds significantly to the area.
