Araglin native and Mitchelstown Macra club member Gerard Griffin has been appointed as chairperson of Macra na Feirme National Executive.
Gerard was appointed as Munster Vice President this time last year, a post he will have for two years and will now sit on the national executive for the next year.
Speaking to The Avondhu, the lecturer and farmer said that as far as he knows, this is the first time that someone has been appointed to the national executive from Mitchelstown. “It’s something different for the club,” he said.
He added that Mitchelstown is a very active club and particularly so in the area of mental health, holding a very successful film screening and talks for mental health only last week in the Corrin Event Centre.
“We think outside the box and that’s something that I will bring with me to the national level,” he told The Avondhu.
Gerard said that the appointment also recognises the strength of the club and the Avondhu region and in line with rising membership numbers, this is great to see.
He added that he will be making the most of his time on the national executive and looks forward to bringing different issues to the fore.
