Those involved with Galbally Tidy Towns can be very happy with the outcome of this year’s Supervalu Tidy Towns adjudication, having taken the bronze medal in the regional awards and achieving a 'highly commended' award in the county awards category.

"Overall we have gained 11 points over what we achieved last year," Jim Cussen, sect=retary of the Tidy Towns group told The Avondhu.

" We have succeeded in improving our standing in the majority of the adjudication areas and in particular in the following where most of our increased marks came from: Wildlife, Habitats and Natural Amenities; Sustainable Waste and Resource Management and Tidiness and Litter Control."

Jim said that overall, it’s a testament to the great community spirit that exists in Galbally and the close co-operation that exists between the different organisations in the community.

"This includes all the sports clubs, the local National School, FAS etc., as well as the residents of our village who maintain their properties to a very high standard and have been 100% supportive in our campaign.

He was also quick to acknowledge the significant support the committe gets from Limerick County Council who are always on hand to provide guidance and assist in the projects the committee undertakes.

"We would like to thank everyone who has helped in the 2014 campaign either through giving up their time, supporting our fundraising events, providing materials for our construction projects or simply being their to provide guidance.

Jim emphasised that Galbally has a very challenging year of projects ahead.

"For the 2015 campaign, we are confident that we will have the same level of support in all areas. We are hopeful that we can maintain our position from this year and perhaps identify some areas where we can bring some further improvement. Thanks to all in Galbally and outside who have supported us. Roll on 2015!"
