Fermoy Gardai are investigating a series of sinister letters that were sent to elderly residents in the Kildorrery-Shanballymore area.
The Avondhu understands that a lady received one of the letters over a month ago. The letters, contained sexual innuendos and caused distress and unease among the recipients.
The stamps used on the envelopes were of International origin but they were posted in Ireland.
One recipient said she felt the letters were ‘harmless enough’ but ‘ugly’ and said her family were very upset and worried.
“We are very private people and we don’t want any notoriety. We have loads of friends and no enemies but these letters have left us upset and worried. We reported the letters to the gardai and they took photocopies and are carrying out an investigation into the matter. We have also asked our postman to be on the lookout,” one recipient told The Avondhu.
A second letter was sent to another lady in the area and was an exact replica of the first. It is now known that a third letter was sent to a lady in the vicinity and was of similar content.
