An announcement in relation to the acquisition of a site for the new Gaelscoil in Fermoy is expected shortly.
Minister Sean Sherlock met recently with the most senior official at the Department of Education and Skills for a briefing. Following the meeting he said “I am very conscious of the pressure that the principal Sean MacGearailt, his teachers and pupils are under. I have met quite a number of parents on the streets in Fermoy who are very anxious about progress in this matter and I full understand that anxiety.”
The process of acquiring a suitable site has to be completed in a manner which delivers value for money for the taxpayer and that takes time, he explained. “I am very confident that this commitment will be delivered on by me. I hope that the people of Fermoy can bear with me and I want to assure them that I am monitoring this issue on an almost daily basis,” he stated.
