Good mix of music and drama for Kilworth
Last Sunday, Anglesboro drama group hosted their end of year "thank you" party in the local community hall. A large crowd, including cast members from the youth productions and all the volunteers who helped out during the production of ‘A wake in the West’, were present to enjoy a sociable evening with refreshments served. A large projector on stage showed some wonderful photos from backstage and onstage during the productions as well as photos from the teen groups trip to Cork On Ice.
Chairman Dan McCarthy thanked everybody for their help throughout the year. Compliments were paid to the directors of all three shows, namely Mary Cooney and Margaret Ann McGrath for ‘The wizard of Oz’, Ilsa Slattery and John McGrath for " Cloudbusting" and of course Willie Carr for the adult production " A wake in the west".
He thanked all the volunteers who parked cars, made tea, cakes, sold raffle tickets etc, etc during the adult show and compliments were also paid to Tom Roche, drama group president on his donation of the presidents prize to the group.
Tom Roche himself made a speech and was complimentary to all involved in the drama group. Further compliments were paid by community chairman Patrick English and Fr Kelly PP.
As this year’s production was such a box office hit, the drama group were delighted to be able to make some presentations on the night.
Dan Gallahue on behalf of the "Drive to survive " campaign was presented with a cheque for €1,700, Fr Kelly accepted a cheque for €1,000 on behalf of Anglesboro NS and Patrick English accepted a cheque for €1,000 on behalf of the community council.
Each member of the youth drama production were also presented with a certificate of achievement for their participation in ‘The wizard of Oz’.
As the curtain closes for another year for the Anglesboro Drama Group, thoughts are already starting for next season. Dan McCarthy finished the evening by encouraging other members of the community to join the drama group in the coming year.
