St. Colman's College, Fermoy ended the school year on a high - literally - with the ceremonial raising of their An Taisce green schools' committee, Green Flag.

The flag was presented to the college at a function in Silversprings Hotel, Cork recently and was proudly fluttering on the terrace of the historic Fermoy school for the final day of term. Two years of dedicated and consistent effort headed by the college's green schools' committee, culminated in St. Colman's achieving official recognition for litter control, waste management and other environmental initiatives.

TEAMWORK & CO-OPERATION

Under the direction of co-ordinator, Catherine Buckley, the group methodically identified problem areas and set about manageable, sustainable solutions. Although primarily driven by Transition Year students, the Green Flag initiative became all inclusive - proving once again that a spirit of teamwork and co-operation can achieve great things.

Speaking at the flag raising ceremony, teacher Catherine Buckley remarked "this great achievement is a credit to all involved, especially the dedicated efforts of management, staff and students. We would like to extend a special word of gratitude to An Taisce, Fermoy Town Council, Fermoy Tidy Town's committee, Christy Roche and FAS for all the invaluable assistance and advice they shared with us".
