The closing date for applications for amenity funding from Cork County Council is looming. Completed applications must be in by Friday next, August 30th. Community groups thrughout North and East Cork are being urged to apply for the funding.
Works that qualify under the Amenity Grants Scheme 2013 include the provision or improvement of amenities and the provision of community facilities. Applications can be made for amounts up to €20,000. The facilities provided must be available for the use and enjoyment of the general public or of a particular age group in the community at all reasonable times. Amenities must be either free of charge or subject to moderate charges to cover management and maintenance costs.
Local councillors Noel McCarthy and Tadhg O’Donovan expressed surprise this week at the slow response to the scheme at a time when community funding is hard to come by. “Any monies that can be drawn down should be drawn down,” Cllr O’Donovan said. Cllr McCarthy urged local groups to get in contact with him or his colleague or to download the application forms from Cork County Council’s website. Both are happy to provide any assistance that may be required in filling in the forms.
