A Garda investigation to establish the authenticity of images relating to a number of sex acts reported to have taken place on the altar at Kildorrery Church is ‘ongoing’ according to Fr Jim Moore, Cloyne Diocesan Secretary.
Fr Moore said the investigation was waylaid and pushed ‘down the queue a bit’ because of the recent murder that took place in Mitchelstown.
It is now expected the investigation being carried out by Cobh Gardai will be concluded by mid July.
Bishop Crean is not expected to reconsecrate the church at Kildorrery in the meantime, or at least not until the authenticity of the photographs is fully established.
Some parishioners have expressed their frustration at the length of time it is taking for the gardai to wrap up their enquiries.
The incident first came to light last May.
