‘Irish Water are taking residents of Burncourt/Fethard for fools’ – Mattie McGrath
From 7am tomorrow morning (Friday, May 23), voters will be making their way to polling stations around the country and while some will cast their vote before their day begins, others will make the trip at lunchtime and some will hold off until nearly 10pm when the polling stations close, but the important thing is to make sure that you use your vote and have your say about who will represent you at both local and European level.
Across The Avondhu newspaper coverage area of North East Cork, West Waterford, South Limerick and South Tipperary, voters will be selecting candidates in the Fermoy Electoral Area, Cappamore/Kilmallock, Clonmel/Cahir, Dungarvan/Lismore and Ireland South.
Of the 55 seats in Cork County Council, six of these will go to the Fermoy area, while in Limerick, of the 40 seats, seven will go to councillors from the Cappamore/Kilmallock area, nine out of the 40 seats in Tipperary County Council will go to Cahir/Clonmel councillors and of the 32 seats in Waterford County Council, eight will be taken by Dungarvan/Lismore area candidates.
Looking at the spread of the candidates in each area across the political parties and non parties applicable to The Avondhu readership, the number of independent and non party candidates is far higher than any other group.
Across the four areas, there are 19 independent or non party candidates, 14 Fine Gael, 12 Fianna Fail, six Sinn Fein and four Labour.
