Latest new model to arrive on Irish roads is the all-new Mercedes-Benz T-Class. A five-seat passenger carrier, it is developed on the same platform as their highly successful, diesel powered Citan, current holder of the acclaimed Continental ‘Irish Van of the Year 2024’ award.

Demonstrating how an imaginative design, creative thinking and a dash of ingenuity can work together to transform a working transporter into a highly attractive people carrier, the new T-Class scores on numerous fronts, not least in its ‘visually larger’ appearance when viewed against the Citan from which it is derived.

Described by Mercedes-Benz as another addition to their premium model portfolio, it is aimed directly at families and what they call ‘leisure enthusiasts with active lifestyles’.

With space for five, two in front and three in the rear, it offers stacks of loading space for leisure and sports enthusiasts. Side sliding doors, on left and right sides, provide quick and easy passenger entry and exit, as well as flexible loading options.

Matching contemporary design with an extensive array of safety equipment and versatile connectivity, the T-class tags multifunctionality and a huge amount of space to a high-end level of equipment. Included in the offering is a comprehensive range of standard safety items, including an electric parking brake, seven airbags, and numerous driving assistance systems.

An interior centrepiece is Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX system with its acclaimed infotainment system, driver guidance and assistance features, data provision and connectivity to which S-Class and other ‘three-pointed-star’ limousine owners are accustomed. An extensive choice of optional features includes items such as 17-inch light-alloy wheels, keyless-go, ambient lighting, and man-made leather seat upholstery to name some.

Prices begin at €42,530, including taxes, for the T 160 d Style model with a four-cylinder, 1461cc diesel engine. Available to order is an extra-long 7-seater T180 petrol version in which the 7 seats are a standard fitment.

Describing T-class as a ‘timely and worthy addition to the Mercedes-Benz portfolio’, their commercial vehicles sales manager, Fergus Conheady said: “those for whom it will have significant appeal include school-going families and enthusiastic weekenders, from team players to the likes of paddle boarders and mountain bikers”.
