Fermoy Pitch & Putt Club have the honour of hosting this weekend's All-Ireland ladies stroke play championships. This is one of the most prestigious events in the PPUI calendar and upwards of 120 of the country's top female junior, intermediate and senior players will be vying for honours on Saturday and Sunday.
Hosting such an event represents a major challenge for Fermoy Pitch & Putt Club. However, thanks to good planning and organisation, they've everything in tip top shape. One of the club's busiest members has been head groundsman, John Richards - a fantastic servant to Fermoy Pitch & Putt over the years. Thanks to his efforts, the course is immaculate and competitors can look forward to playing in perfectly manicured greens.
While competition will be stiff, local players won't be overawed and with both senior county champion and the runner-up (Eleanor Walsh and Sarah Byrne respectively) in their ranks, there's justifiable optimism that Fermoy-based players are capable of mounting a serious challenge.
Away from the cut and thrust of competition, the club personnel are determined to look after everyone who visits Fermoy this weekend and extensive catering and entertainment is being laid on.
Note

In accordance with P.P.U.I. protocol the Fermoy course will be reserved for competitors from this Wednesday onwards. Readers are also reminded that Fermoy Pitch & Putt Club's open week runs from July 30th until Monday 4th August.
