ALL-IRELAND SEMI-FINALS

All roads lead to Croke Park this weekend - for the first in many years Limerick will have two teams playing in the All-Ireland minor and senior hurling championship semi-finals on Sunday, 18 August. It is expected that many locals will make the trip to Croke Park.

There is great interest locally in the games, with local involvement on both Limerick teams, Richard McCarthy, neighbour Stephen Walsh (Glenroe) on the senior side, minor team manager, Brian Ryan formerly Martinstown, Dylan Dawson on the minor panel and Pat Creed with the minor team, backroom staff. Best of luck is extended to both Limerick teams and respective management.

Just over three years ago there was a similar exodus from the area to Croke Park when on Saturday, 13 February, 2010, Blackrock played and won the junior club All-Ireland hurling final and lets hope the boys in green will be successful on Sunday and qualify for the All-Ireland final on 8 September.

‘FAILTE ABHAILE'

With the recession still hitting hard in these times, it is nice to see a number of exiles returning to the ‘Green Green Grass of Home’ in Kilfinane and surrounding area to spend a holiday with family and friends and meet old acquaintances. Reminiscing of their days before they took the emigrant ship or plane to places far away, many of them are also following the Limerick teams in Croke Park on Sunday. It is hoped our visitors will have a very pleasant stay at home and they are extended a ‘cead mile failte’.
