The Aherne family, originally from St. Joseph’s Square, Fermoy have had their fair share of sadness in the last couple of years.

Their most recent loss was the passing of 55-year-old Brendan Aherne, a resident of Killarney, who succumbed to a very aggresive strain of cancer.

Staff of Kerry Hospice were very good to Brendan during the final phase of his life. According to family members, Brendan received outstanding care, during what was a very difficult time for all concerned.

Keen to give something back, Brendan’s daughter, Jennifer, with support from Brendan’s nephew, Joe Jr. (Cill Úird) undertook, a sometimes gruelling series of runs to financially assist Kerry Hospice.
