Unless swift repairs are made to the former Brideview Bar & Restaurant property on the outskirts of Tallow, the building may not be salvageable given its quickly deteriorating condition. The building was seriously damaged in a fire over three years ago, which forced its closure.
The Avondhu understands that the property is in receivership and in the hands of a bank, while on the market for €90,000 through Cronin Wall Properties in Midleton, who have received interest from a number of parties. The building, which has significant historical value, is a protected structure.
TIME OF THE ESSENCE
Speaking to architect Fergus Merriman, who has viewed the property, he said there is a pressing need to carry out renovations within the next number of months, particularly before the coming winter.
“The slates have been robbed off part of it, and it’s starting to decline.”
“Unless something is done fairly quickly it could fall apart fairly rapidly and be a total loss. So it’s really pertinent for somebody to do something before next winter kicks in and it really starts to degrade.
“Already you see a timber infestation starting in it because it’s open to the elements. Once that starts it really becomes an impossible task to restore it …”
