Castle Oliver, situated in the foothills of the Ballyhoura Mountains in Ardpatrick, has been bought by two Australian brothers.
Readers will recall that celebrity couple Kim Kardashian and Kanye West spent part of their honeymoon there in 2014 and that it was also named European House of the Week on the Wall Street Journal a year earlier.
The exact sale price has not been made public but the property, which had been on the market for 2 years, was advertised at just under €3m by Ganly Walters property agents in Dublin.
The new owners who are from Melbourne, do not wish to be identified but The Avondhu understands that they work in the transport industry and have Irish ancestry. Apparently they fell in love with the area on a visit earlier this year.
It is their intention to use the castle as a private residence, but weddings planned in advance of the sale for the autumn will still go ahead as planned. The previous owners of the castle were Emma and Declan Cormack who purchased the property in 2006 and put considerable efforts into restoration works.
The Avondhu understands that they are focusing on purchasing another property and possibly putting their efforts into doing that up also.
Castle Oliver was originally built in 1843 as a private residence for Mary and Elizabeth Oliver-Gascoigne. In 1852 Elizabeth married Lord Ashtown and it became known as the home of Lord and Lady Ashtown. Set on 15 acres of private gardens and woodland with its own lake, Castle Oliver is complete with battlements, turrets and a flag tower.
It is constructed with local red sandstone and hosts a magnificent ballroom with antique chandeliers and a period fireplace.
